You know this moment

The conversation gets stuck —
and more words won't move it.

If you hold space for other people — in a practice, a classroom, a session room, a team — you know the moment. The story has been told twice. The insight is accurate, and it changes nothing. Something in the room is asking for a language that words can't offer.

This masterclass is about exactly that moment. In Somatic Vocal Healing the question isn't tell me more about it — it's what is the sound of it? Sound before story: one honest tone can carry what would take ten careful minutes to circle in words, and the person in front of you was born knowing how to make it.

Not a replacement for your training. Something that sits underneath it — a way to let the body speak when the mind has nowhere left to go.

"I've never had a therapist ask me: could you make a sound for that? It's odd and sad that it doesn't happen — because it's still so natural to us." — Jacob

Talking goes around it.
Sounding enters it.

Inside the 90 minutes

First you feel it.
Then we look at how it works.

Somatic Vocal Healing is sounding, not singing: one honest tone, of what's actually there — a feeling, a body part, a moment. No melody, no performance, no talent required, for you or for the people you work with. It's a coherent, teachable method — somatic, trauma-informed — and the masterclass is a structured look at how it holds together.

We start in your own body, because that's where the method starts. Then we begin to listen as a practitioner does: what your role in the room becomes when the participant is the one doing the healing.

What the 90 minutes hold
01

The practice, in your own body

A guided sounding practice — the sound of the moment, and the question under the whole method: what is below that? You feel what acknowledgment does before we talk about how it works, because your own body is the only place this work can be understood from.

02

Why it works: of, not for

The distinction the practice stands on: we make the sound of something, never for it. The healing is in the acknowledgment — being present with what’s there — which is why nobody, including you, can do it for the person in front of you.

03

The space-holder stance

What you actually do while someone sounds: hold the room steady, ask the next honest question, and get out of the way. Present without fixing, taking on, or steering — and when they discover a connection, you leave that gift to them.

04

Where it fits in your work — and where it doesn’t

How sound sits underneath one-to-one sessions, groups, and rooms that have gone tense. A first ear for what a tone carries — fear is a short wave, grief a longer one. And the honest part: this is not therapy, and it doesn’t replace yours.

You don't need a good voice, and neither do your clients. Sounding asks for an honest tone, not a beautiful one.

Who it's for

People who hold space — by profession or by vocation.

Psychotherapists & counsellorsCoaches & facilitatorsBody- & breathworkersYoga & meditation teachersVoice & music professionalsTeachers, carers & leaders

And people quietly training toward this kind of work. Useful whether or not you ever intend to teach sounding formally — it begins with what it does in your own practice, and in you.

Not a healer — a space holder. We make room. The rest happens.

Voices from the field

Practitioners on Somatic Vocal Healing.

In forty years across holistic healing — as a chiropractor, Reiki master, yoga teacher, and coach — I've never met a method that works as quickly, deeply, gently, and effectively as Somatic Vocal Healing.

I'm trained in Nonviolent Communication and the science of voice, and this work enriches my toolkit, letting me support people more deeply and precisely. The voice becomes a bridge to yourself — a direct way to what's alive in the present moment, and sometimes to ancestral patterns. It makes room for clarity, peace, and reconnection to our deeper needs.

This is a deep immersion into the weave of heart and nervous system. The most beautiful part: there's no need to search for the right words — it's enough to open my mouth. And in the community that forms through the live meetings, I found a deep sense of safety.

It's both a simple and a deeply spiritual practice. By learning to listen to your own sound, you bring the unconscious into the light of the present moment. A safe path to transformation — powerful, and incredibly gentle.

As a musician I feel far more deeply connected to my own voice, with a new understanding of how to express the truth of who I am. But beware — after this, conversations are never the same. You start tuning your ears to the emotion inside the tone.

Somatic Vocal Healing is a simple yet natural way to connect with the life within us. I'm grateful for this practice — it's balanced, practical, and so easy to take in.

Who teaches it

Jacob Vermeulen — the one holding the room.

Jacob Vermeulen facilitating a Somatic Vocal Healing circle

I can't teach you this from a presentation. I can let you feel it — and then show you how I hold it.

I'm a pianist and singer, and the creator of Somatic Vocal Healing. Fifteen-plus years and a few thousand students later, it's become a coherent, teachable method — somatic, trauma-informed, and built on one conviction: the participant heals themselves, and we hold the space for that. In these 90 minutes I'll work the way I always work, and name what I'm doing while I do it — the questions, the listening, the staying out of the way.

You can't hold this for someone else until you've let it work on you first.

Where this leads

The doorway to the practitioner path.

The masterclass stands on its own — come, take what's useful, bring it home to your work. And for some people it's the first step toward more: the Somatic Vocal Healing Certification Course, where facilitation is taught properly, in depth, and under supervision. The masterclass is the honest, inexpensive way to find out which of those people you are.
